MaxieJane Frazier

Co-editor of the book and founder of Mighty Mule Editing, Max is a writer, teacher, editor, coach, educator, and a 1991 graduate of the US Air Force Academy. Her super power is maintaining an author's voice and vision while helping develop thematic threads, consistent plot, character development, and readability.

From trying out her lieutenant butter bars in Eskan Village outside of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to pinning on the rank of captain while deployed to Naples, Italy, in support of Joint Task Force Provide Promise, Max initially served around the world as a public affairs officer. The rest of her 26-year career, she was earning graduate degrees in English literature and teaching in the Department of English and Fine Arts at the US Air Force Academy eventually retiring as a lieutenant colonel. From winter in Kabul, Afghanistan, to more than a year in Kyrgyzstan, to her secluded life in a rural Washington state highland valley now, Max has always sought balance and peace in her life.

Since retiring from the US Air Force in 2017, Max earned her MFA in Fiction and Nonfiction from the Bennington Writing Seminars and now teaches creative writing online, is a professor for Southern New Hampshire University's MA in English creative writing program, and works as a freelance editor helping writers find their most authentic voice.

Max bookends each day at the barn caring for two retired National Park Service pack mules, Buck and Festus, and two lovely geriatric horses. She and her veteran husband are active in their local community as part of their shared commitment to lifelong service. She’s finally found a life steeped in words, animals, nature, and love.
